With the thought of being snowed in for 3 days, I started getting really fidgety. I went to my sewing machine and was wondering what I could get into. I saw a chunk of leather and played around with the idea of learning to hand stitch something. I went with the easiest thing I could think of, a checkbook cover. I grabbed a few pieces of leather, cut it out, dyed it my favorite tan color, used my TQ stamp, and learned the saddle stitch!! It turned out much better than it was in my mind. I don't think I will ever machine sew another checkbook cover again.
As we approach the day before the impending 2 foot of snow, I found myself making sure I have projects to work on. The first is to find my sewing machine that is covered in tons of mess! Once that is done, I am making leather check book covers. If power is lost, I plan on teaching myself how to hand stitch leather. I can not wait to have a few days of being snowed in. The tranquility of snow is one of my favorite parts of Winter.
I hope all of you, that live in the areas that they say will receive this huge amount of fluff, will stay safe and warm. I am looking forward to adding my first checkbook covers to our store.
I am an endurance runner, If any of you out there are also, you know the time you have on your mind when hitting the trail.
During this mornings run, as I was watching the sky wake up, I thought about the coolest creator of all time, GOD. His creations are every where you look.
When I make a bag, sometimes it takes me days or miles to figure out how to add something, (self taught sewer) like zippers, flaps ect... When I figure it out, I am like a little kid learning to tie my shoe for the first time. I want to show everyone and I can not stop smiling. God has given each and everyone of us the ability to create. We just all create in different ways. Take a few moments and think about the creativity that is bursting inside of you, wanting to come out, grab it and run with it, not literally, unless you want to, but take it out and apply it to your life so everyone can see it. I promise that smile on your face will last a long time.
I have been married to a geek for over 23 years, raised another geek for 19 years, and I had NO idea that such geekiness in adults existed. When my 19 year old said, "Mom you could totally make super hero and geek bags and sell them!" I was very skeptical about the idea, but thought I should at least give it a try. A year later, I sell more geek products from Sew Geek than I ever thought I would. Thinking outside of the box is a wonderful thing. I have even gotten my daughter to draw up characters and we send the art off to have printed on fabric.
Well it is time to find the rotary cutter under this huge mess and get a backpack finished.
Friday brings a new leather order, bucket bags to make, and an upgrade to my website!!! I am excited to finally have a website, that has been beautifully constructed for me, by Alaina, and that her patience for me learning all of the ins and outs of this new site, isn't making her regret doing so.
